Today’s live sector is where it all happens. Everywhere venues and festivals experience an increasing interest from the audience, as well as bands and artists struggle to please audiences, with increasingly intense and spectacular live shows as results. This four-step seminar bring you presentations of festivals’ aim of sharpen their profile these years, the role that public and private funding plays – and why live music apparently has become so hot, that whole towns now brand themselves as Music Cities.
This seminar will focus on some of the many challenges the European venues are facing and will discuss topics such as public funding – or no funding at all – the “promotion gap” and the “eternal tour bus”.

Isabelle von Walterskirchen
Isabelle is manager of PETZI, the association of contemporary live-music venues that develops and puts in place tools & lobbying for its network of concert halls and festivals in Switzerland. She is a central figure of Swiss underground culture, as event-organizer (DECONSTRUCTION CLUB) and activist for nightlife and NPO-culture. She is also president of Nachtstadtrat Zürich and board-member of Live DMA.
Jakob Brixvold
Since 2008 Jakob has been head of live operators’ interest group in Denmark and through a merge of the festival association and venue association he gave Dansk Live a strong political voice. He also handled the interests of the major concert halls and cultural centers from the same secretariat, which represents 66% of all sold concert tickets in Denmark.
Marc Steens
Clubcircuit is the network organization of 11 concert venues, all based in the Dutch speaking part of the country. The capacity of the venues ranges from 200 to 1200 people. Clubcircuit has existed since 1996. Marc Steens has been working as coordinator for the network since 2004.
Next to that, Marc Steens is also working as PR manager for Dour Festival, one of the major festivals in Belgium.
Joppe Pihlgren
Since 1980, Joppe Pihlgren has played in Docenterna, who have released 12 albums and played approximately 1800 concerts. The last couple of years Joppe has been in charge of Live Music Sweden and its 125 members. Before this he worked with investments in cultural and creative companies at the KK Foundation and Tillväxtverket, as an organisation consultant in major companies, and he has been headed of several TV productions
Andy Inglis
Andys music business career spans twenty-six years, beginning in 1990, DJing, running raves and record labels, and managing electronic artists. His company now focusses on Artist Management and Tour Management (for the Mercury Prize-nominated East India Youth amongst others) and Mentoring. He also lectures internationally on the Live Music Industry. He would ban guest lists, cover versions and encores.
