Today’s live sector is where it all happens. Everywhere venues and festivals experience an increasing interest from the audience, as well as bands and artists struggle to please audiences, with increasingly intense and spectacular live shows as results. This four-step seminar bring you presentations of festivals’ aim of sharpen their profile these years, the role that public and private funding plays – and why live music apparently has become so hot, that whole towns now brand themselves as Music Cities.

This seminar will focus on the new European festival market with specialized/profiled festivals, the major promoters as festival organizers and the future perspectives for festivals in regards to a “segmented” music market and lack of “long-carreer” artists.

Julia Gudzent

Head of artist liaison and talent buyer, Melt! (DE)

Julia is responsible for event series such as Introducing and Certain People at Berghain and working for festivals such as Melt Festival, Berlin Festival, Splash! Festival, Lollapalooza Berlin. Previously she has worked as a freelance tour manager, but decided to settle down in Berlin and join Melt! Festival as its second employee. Since then she has been head of artist liaison and promoter for new talent.

Ulrik Ørum-Petersen

Managing director, Heartland Festival (DK)

Ulrik has worked as an artist manager and founding partner in the Danish entertainment company VOLCANO for more than 10 years, representing such acts as Kashmir, Veto, Oh Land, The Floor Is Made Of Lava, WhoMadeWho and many more.
In 2013 he left VULCANO to join Live Nation as concert promoter and Festival Director. He is currently spending the majority of his time getting the first edition of Heartland Festival off the ground.

Maria Theessink

Talent buyer and Head of Press, Tønder Folk Festival (DK)

Maria Theessink is the Artistic Director and head of press at Tønder Festival.
Tønder Festival is one of Europe’s most respected folk & roots festivals celebrating it’s 42th year in 2016.

Andy Inglis

Manager and tourmanager, 5000 MGMT (UK)

Andys music business career spans twenty-six years, beginning in 1990, DJing, running raves and record labels, and managing electronic artists. His company now focusses on Artist Management and Tour Management (for the Mercury Prize-nominated East India Youth amongst others) and Mentoring. He also lectures internationally on the Live Music Industry. He would ban guest lists, cover versions and encores.

András Berta

International Relations Director, Sziget Cultural Management

For 15 years involved in the Hungarian music industry Andreas Berta was co-founder and director of the popular music development program of the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and also served as program coordinator of Music Export Hungary. He was CEO of independent label Zene360, before taking his current position at Sziget in 2010. His task is supervising the international sales, marketing and PR actions of Sziget and Balaton Sound.
